The Buzzfeed feature, titled ‘ What Does A Queer Pop Star Look Like In 2016?’ looked at how Halsey ‘performs her sexuality’ in the music industry, analysing her music videos, the pronouns used in her lyrics and her collaborations with ‘hyper-exposed men’ and discussing whether her goals of ‘battling heteronormativity’ have changed. Taking to Twitter to take issue with the ‘bi-erasure’ tones in the piece, Halsey, who is openly bisexual, explained that she’s tired of the ‘anaylsis of her one year in the public eye’.
Halsey has responded to a recent article in which her sexuality was discussed in regards to her continuing rise in the mainstream music industry - An article which appeared to suggest that the industry has impacted on how she expresses or 'presents' her sexuality.
